i always thought that life is a gamble. what i've realized is, you have to know when to fold, how to bluff, what to bet, and when to go all-in.
and for a time, i knew for sure i was right...
until i saw how dennis rodman played.
rodman gave-up cards that could have been played and bet high on cards that no one else would thought of playing. when only 2 players were left out of 5, the other player, who was already short-stacked, got a King-7 and went all-in. those are definitely good cards to play. rodman has 7-2. goodluck. having won most of the pot and given how he played most of the night, he did not back out. why shouldn't he? but having 7-2 as cards, why add more money to the pot for your opponent to get? we'll never know.
but here's how it turned out:
the flop was laid-out. that's the first 3 common cards for all players. it turned out to be a Jack, a 10, and a 5. i think. the other player still has the best cards so far. the poker expert commented that he was 60% to win from there. or higher. the next card is called the turn. it was a 2. now, rodman has a pair. the last card is called the river. it was a 10. sealing rodman's victory with a two-pair.
talk about luck. but i think it became luck because he had the balls to play it. and he was doing that the whole night.
he didn't give a d*mn about what people might think. to him, there's no such thing as losing. not because he was always winning. but it' just not in his vocabulary. it's all for charity. he says. i learned a lot from rodman that day.
life is a gamble.
